About Us

Catholic Blind Services is:

  • a service to assist the Church in her ministry with people who are blind or have a visual impairment;
  • a service to enable blind or visually impaired people to live out more deeply, their Christian calling;
  • a service directed by and for people who are blind or have a visual impairment.

CBS provides a confidential support system for those dealing with issues concerning the blind and visually impaired.
CBS offers guidance and support to those concerned with disability legislation and issues related to diversity and equality.
CBS assists other organisations endeavouring to provide for the needs of the visually impaired.

CBS is a registered charity and is governed by a Board of Trustees. CBS currently does not employ any staff and is reliant on volunteer help.

Some of the things we do

We publish the Large Print Mass Sheet for Sundays, Holy Days and other celebrations.
We give school presentations and workshops, arrange occasional gatherings including retreats, pilgrimages, conferences and other social events.
We provide some audio and recording services including voiceover and reading services.
Training on issues surrounding visual impairment can be given on request, including looking at an organisation’s or company’s services to blind and visually impaired people.
Through our website, we offer information and advice on spiritual and pastoral matters.
We offer counselling and support to priests, deacons and Religious experiencing sight loss.

CBS Publications offers books in large print and it is hoped to offer CBS audio titles in the future.

Spiritual and liturgical resources are being developed by CBS as part of its workplan for 2018/19.
